Wyoming is home to a wide range of western wildlife, including many rare or endangered species. The area around Elk Mountain is home to hawks, falcons, bald eagles, herons, pelicans, gulls, prairie dogs, ferrets, squirrels, antelope, deer, elk, cottontails and jackrabbits, badgers, moose, and many other birds and animals. Both mountain and prairie species inhabit the area, as well as many aquatic species, since the Medicine Bow River runs right past the hotel.
